The
Sunnyvale Town Center and Town and Country projects may be stalled
indefinitely, but both remain the focus of a five-year plan recently
approved by the Redevelopment Agency.
According to a city staff
report, "The project area continues to require redevelopment support,
particularly the central area including the Town Center and Town and
Country properties. " The agency's plan notes that the project is
"stalled due to the recent economic recession," but later describes a
goal to "complete priority improvements in phases to the downtown civic
plaza" and to "facilitate redevelopment of the Town Center to provide
for an open-air, pedestrian-oriented, retail, office, entertainment and
residential development."
The agency recognizes that the Town
Center and Town and Country are not active projects now, but Brice
McQueen, redevelopment manager for the city, said the hope is that they
will be within the next five years.
